I started playing soccer basically when I started walking. I was on my first league team at 4, and that was pretty much when I knew it was something I’d do forever.
I’ve always been hyper and rambunctious so my parents loved that I would go down to the park and get all my energy out. No matter if I win or lose, the game is where my heart is, but I can’t lie, I’m pretty darn competitive, haha. I’ve been on some amazing teams with some amazing girls, so thankfully I’ve been lucky in the winning department, but my freshman year of college was the toughest year ever for me in soccer, and my life.
I had been feeling really sick all pre-season training, I was tired, and distance runs we’re completely killing me. Then, on top of that, one of my legs was hurting more than normal soreness. After going to the school trainer, I found out I had a fracture in my right leg. So now that I had bones falling apart I knew something was really wrong. After months of seeing doctors, and not knowing what was happening to me, and feeling like a complete train wreck, I found out I was anemic.
I ended up having to quit soccer that season, and it took almost a year of my life to recover from the anemia. The entire time I was going through what I was going through with my health, all I wanted to do was be healthy and feel alive. ‘Rise From The Ashes’ was the song that just gave me hope and helped me keep my head up. I know the song is more about a battle in a relationship, but I kind of felt like I was battling something just as personal. Anyone who has ever battled a serious health problem probably understands just how that feels – like the disease is attacking you with a personal vendetta. No matter what, I wasn’t going to let anemia take me from myself. I listened to this song almost everyday, and it motivated me every step of the way. Quietdrive is a huge part of why i made it through all of that, and why I’m back to playing soccer again
